McKenzie County is located on the western edge of North Dakota bordering the state of Montana to the west.  It is situated centrally between the Canadian border and the South Dakota border. The county seat of Watford City is approximately 90 miles from the Canadian border, 145 from the South Dakota border and 50 miles from the Montana border.

 

Traveling to Watford City:

*Traveling east or west on Interstate 94; exit at Exit marker #42(at Belfield), travel north approximate 67 miles until you reach Watford City.

 

*Traveling east or west on Highway 2; at Williston turn south on Hwy 85 and travel approximated 45 miles until you reach Watford City.

*Traveling north or south on Hwy 83; turn west on Hwy 23 and travel approximately 120 mles until you reach Watford City.
